Jessie J's Domino was the most played pop song in the UK last year. The single, originally released in 2011, beat songs by Emile Sande, Rihanna and Carley Rae Jepsen according to a list compiled by the music licensing organisation PPL.
PPL's
rankings are drawn from a combination of radio play, the use of songs
in TV shows and licensing data for music played in pubs, shops and
clubs. "[It] is always an impressive insight into what the nation has
been listening to the previous year," said PPL's PR and communications
Jonathan Morrish.
Jessie J's Domino reached No 1 in January 2012, more than four months
after it entered the chart at No 54. It stayed at the top for two
weeks. The song is a surprising leader of PPL's list: We Found Love, by
Rihanna and Calvin Harres, spent six weeks in the chart's top spot, and in terms of pure sales, Domino was only 2012's sixth-bestselling single.
The runners-up on PPL's list include Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know, which was officially the bestselling song of 2012, Sandé's Next To Me and Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger. We Found Love is at No 8, just ahead of Jepsen's pop favourite Call Me Maybe and another Maroon 5 track, Payphone.
